The St. Louis Cardinals traded outfielder Lars Nootbaar to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team announced Monday.

Right-hander Daniel Eagen, left-hander Sandro Santana and ‌a player to be named later will head to St. Louis in return.

Eagen, 23, was ranked fifth among Diamondbacks prospects by ‌MLB Pipeline, while the 21-year-old Santana was 26th.

Nootbaar, 28, gives Arizona a left-handed hitter capable of playing all three outfield positions. He is batting .234 with three home runs and 16 RBIs through 48 games this season.

The California native missed the first two months of the season while recovering from surgery on both heels. He returned June 5 and posted a .306 average ‌with a pair of homers during his first month back before his production declined in July.

Nootbaar spent his first six major league seasons with St. Louis after the Cardinals selected him in the eighth round ‌of the 2018 draft. He has produced a .241 average, 61 ‌home runs and 210 RBIs across 575 career games.

He remains under club control through the 2027 season, giving the Diamondbacks more than a short-term addition as they pursue a National League wild-card berth.
