The St. Louis Cardinals are trading outfielder Lars Nootbaar to the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to multiple reports Monday.
The Athletic reported that right-hander Daniel Eagen and infielder Ruben Santana are two of the three players headed to St. Louis. The identity of the third player was not immediately reported, and neither club had announced the deal.
Eagen, 23, was ranked fifth among Diamondbacks prospects by MLB Pipeline.
Nootbaar, 28, gives Arizona a left-handed hitter capable of playing all three outfield positions. He is batting .234 with three home runs and 16 RBIs through 48 games this season.
The California native missed the first two months of the season while recovering from surgery on both heels. He returned June 5 and posted a .306 average with a pair of homers during his first month back before his production declined in July.
Nootbaar spent his first six major league seasons with St. Louis after the Cardinals selected him in the eighth round of the 2018 draft. He has produced a .241 average, 61 home runs and 210 RBIs across 575 career games.
He remains under club control through the 2027 season, giving the Diamondbacks more than a short-term addition as they pursue a National League wild-card berth.
