The Tampa Bay Rays acquired catcher/first baseman Liam Hicks from the Miami Marlins on Monday for three minor leaguers, including two former first-round draft picks, multiple outlets reported.
Hicks, 27, is batting .282 with 14 home runs and 62 RBIs in 101 games this season, making 32 starts at catcher, 19 at first base and 39 as designated hitter.
In his second major league season, Hicks is a career .265 hitter with 20 home runs and 107 RBIs in 220 games.
The Marlins will receive shortstop Adrian Santana (Rays’ No. 27 prospect, per MLB Pipeline), infielder Brayden Taylor (No. 16) and right-hander Jacob Kisting (No. 26) in the deal.
Santana, 21, was a first-round draft pick (31st overall) by the Rays in 2023 and was batting a combined .311 with three home runs and 23 RBIs in 54 games at two separate affiliates, including 51 games with High-A Bowling Green.
Taylor, 24, is also a former first-round draft pick, selected 19th overall by the Rays in 2023. He was batting .284 with 17 home runs and 56 RBIs in 88 games at Double-A Montgomery.
Kisting, 23, is a former 14th-round draft pick in 2024, who was 6-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 18 appearances (16 starts) this season at Bowling Green.
