Aug 31 (Field Level Media) – The Chicago White Sox acquired outfielder Tommy Pham from the Philadelphia Phillies for cash considerations, multiple outlets reported Monday.
The 38-year-old veteran is expected to be added to the major league club when rosters expand Tuesday.
Pham was eligible to be traded because he was not on a 40-man roster at the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline. Acquiring him before Sept. 1 also makes him eligible for the postseason roster.
Pham played in nine games for the New York Mets this season and was 0-for-13. He was designated for assignment and granted free agency on April 29 before being signed and released by the Baltimore Orioles and then signed by the Phillies on June 27.
With five different minor league teams this season, Pham has batted .239 with eight homers and 39 RBIs in 68 games.
Over 13 major league seasons, Pham is a career .256 hitter with 149 home runs and 522 RBIs in 1,250 games with 10 different organizations. He played his first five major league seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals (2014-18) and returned to the club in 2024.
The White Sox entered Monday’s play with a 72-64 record and a 3 1/2-game lead on the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central. Chicago is just two years removed from a franchise-worst 121-loss season and has not won a playoff series since winning the 2005 World Series.
