India expects below-average September rains after weak August

MUMBAI, Aug 31 (Reuters) – India is likely ​to receive ‌below-average monsoon rains in September after precipitation ‌in ​August ⁠was 16% ⁠below average, the weather department said on ​Monday, raising concerns ⁠about farm ⁠output and ​economic growth ​in Asia’s third-largest economy.

September ‌rainfall is forecast at less ⁠than 91% of the long-period average, ⁠said ‌Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, ⁠director-general of ​the ‌India Meteorological ​Department.
