Aug 24 (Reuters) – The State Department on Monday removed Syria from ‌its list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, according to ‌a notification from the U.S. Treasury, in a move that was first announced earlier this year pending a review by Congress.

The designation as a state sponsor of terrorism carries restrictions ‌on U.S. foreign assistance, defense exports and certain financial transactions.

Monday’s announcement also removed the designation of the ‌Nusrah Front as a Specially ‌Designated Global Terrorist organization.
