Rubio says immediate goal on Sudan is cessation of hostilities going into new year

WASHINGTON, Dec 19 (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Marco ‍Rubio on Friday said that Washington’s immediate goal on Sudan is a cessation ‌of hostilities going ‌into the new year that allows humanitarian organizations to be able to ​deliver assistance.

Rubio, speaking to reporters at ‍a ​news conference, said ​that countries are providing ‍weaponry and equipment to the parties, including transshipment of weapons particularly to ‍the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. He added that the ‍Trump ‍administration has ​engaged with leaders ​of ⁠the United Arab ‌Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt on Sudan.
