WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer on Monday called for a probe into a probe into ongoing flight disruptions at Newark airport outside Manhattan that have disrupted hundreds of flights over the last eight days because of equipment and staffing issues.
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby on Friday that the carrier will begin canceling 35 additional flights a day – or about 10% – at its Newark hub. Schumer asked the Transportation Department Office of Inspector General investigation “into what happened at Newark so these problems don’t get worse, or spread to airports across the nation.”
