Oct 28 (Reuters) – Oura said on Wednesday it has launched a clinical trial to study how sleep, heart rate and other measures monitored by the ‌company’s smart ring are associated with outcomes of obesity treatments such as GLP-1 drugs and bariatric surgery.

The trial will examine whether changes in those measures ‌are linked to outcomes from the treatment such as weight loss, blood sugar control and treatment persistence.

Here are more details:

• Oura said the trial with UC San Diego Health aims to capture health changes that occur between routine care visits, providing researchers with continuous data on how patients sleep, recover and move during treatment

• The study is being conducted through Oura’s Office of Regulatory and Clinical Affairs, ‌or ORCA, which oversees clinical research, regulatory affairs and outcomes studies

• The company said its ring has been used in more than 200 peer-reviewed studies across areas including sleep, cardiovascular health, women’s health and metabolic health

• The company said ‌it is expanding its healthcare research efforts as wearable devices play a ‌growing role in clinical care and outcomes tracking

• Oura in June partnered with Eli Lilly’s LillyDirect platform to provide support tools and savings options for people using prescribed GLP-1 therapies
