Oct 06 (Field Level Media) – Formula 1 is set to return ‌to Africa with a race in Rwanda in 2030, RacingNews365 reported on Tuesday.

An ‌agreement has been reached and an official announcement could come later this year, per the report.

Despite attempts from local organizers, F1 hasn’t raced on the continent since the 1993 South African Grand Prix.

Rwandan president Paul Kagame announced his country’s ‌intention to bid for an F1 race back in 2024.

The F1 community was initially skeptical since Rwanda doesn’t currently have a racing ‌circuit capable of hosting a major motorsports ‌event. However, there are plans to build a permanent facility just outside the capital city of Kigali, per the report.
