Sept 23 (Reuters) – Private discount grocer Aldi said on Wednesday it would lower prices on a range of grocery items in the U.S. this fall, a move the company estimates will save shoppers about $86 million as consumers continue to grapple with inflation.
Here are some details:
• The announcement comes as U.S. grocery retailers compete aggressively for value-seeking shoppers who remain selective about spending as they struggle with higher gas prices and economic uncertainty.
• Larger peers including Kroger and Walmart are keeping their prices low to win over cost-conscious shoppers.
• The fall price reductions will be effective from September 23 until at least November 3 at all Aldi stores in the U.S.
• Newly reduced items include Autumncrisp grapes, Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts and a wide range of apples and potatoes.
