Sep 23 (Field Level Media) – The United Football League is expanding to four new markets in the next two seasons, the spring league announced on Wednesday.
New teams will launch in Rhode Island and Colorado in 2027, replacing Houston and Birmingham, Ala. Franchises in Utah and Oklahoma will join in 2028, bringing the UFL to 10 teams.
“There is a real energy around this league right now, and we’re thrilled to bring that energy to four new markets,” UFL co-owner Mike Repole said. “We said in July that our next step was finding the right markets, venues, and fan bases where we can work with local leaders to build the strongest franchises for today and for the future, and we believe Colorado, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, and Utah represent those qualities.”
The new teams will be based in Pawtucket, R.I. (Centreville Bank Stadium); Colorado Springs, Colo. (Weidner Field); Sandy, Utah (America First Field); and Oklahoma City (MAPS4 Multipurpose Stadium).
Rhode Island will open its home schedule on April 2 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. Colorado will host its inaugural home game on April 11 at 3 p.m. ET on ABC. Opponents will be announced at a later date.
Rhode Island will unveil its team name, color and logos on Oct. 18 and Colorado will follow suit on Oct. 25.
The UFL played its first season in 2024. The Birmingham Stallions won the league’s inaugural United Bowl in 2024, followed by the DC Defenders in 2025 and Louisville Kings in 2026.
