Sep 22 (Field Level Media) – The Minnesota Wild have signed general manager Bill Guerin to a multi-year contract extension, according to multiple media reports, one week after locking in head coach John Hynes on a multi-year extension.
Guerin, who served as GM of the gold medal-winning U.S. men’s hockey team at the 2026 Olympics, is entering his eighth season as Wild GM. The former NHL forward and Pittsburgh Penguins executive, now 55, also has held the title of president of hockey operations in Minnesota since 2023.

Minnesota has made the NHL playoffs in 12 of the past 14 seasons but not once advanced past the second round. Guerin, named NHL General Manager of the Year in June after a 104-point season, has recently tried to reverse that trend by executing a series of bold transactions. The team signed star winger Kirill Kaprizov to a record-breaking, eight-year, $136 million contract extension last fall that was the most lucrative in league history. The Wild acquired star defenseman Quinn Hughes in a blockbuster trade with the Vancouver Canucks in December.
Guerin and Hughes’ representatives have recently discussed a possible extension for the 26-year-old blue-liner, according to reports. Hughes, who won the Norris Memorial Trophy in the 2023-24 season as the league’s top defenseman, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Minnesota opens the 2026-27 regular season on the road against the Nashville Predators on Oct. 1.
