Sep 21 (Field Level Media) – The younger brother of nine-time All-Star reliever Craig Kimbrel was killed in a weekend motorcycle crash in Huntsville, Ala.
Matt Kimbrel, 36, a former minor league pitcher with the Atlanta Braves, died Saturday morning after colliding with a dump truck, police said.
The Braves drafted Matt Kimbrel in the 31st round in 2012. The right-hander played three seasons in the low minors and finished 7-6 with a 7.04 ERA and two saves in 43 appearances (no starts).
Craig Kimbrel, 38, ranks fifth on the all-time saves list with 441. The 2011 National League Rookie of the Year currently is on the 40-man roster of the Kansas City Royals, his 12th team in 17 major league seasons.
