US safety board urges fully electronic tolling after fatal Ohio crash

WASHINGTON, Sept 16 (Reuters) – The National Transportation Safety ​Board on ‌Wednesday urged U.S. states and other operators ‌to ​adopt fully ⁠electronic tolling ⁠on highways after a fatal 2024 crash at ​a toll plaza in ⁠Ohio.

An ⁠SUV traveling ​at a toll ​plaza in Swanton Township, ‌Ohio suddenly slowed and moved into ⁠the path of a truck-trailer while ⁠attempting ‌to enter ⁠the low-speed ​manual ‌toll booth. The ​truck ⁠struck the SUV and overturned, spilling sulfonic acid.
