Sep 11 (Field Level Media) – Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams will miss an extended period of time following shoulder surgery, ESPN reported on Friday.
He underwent a procedure on Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, an injury reportedly sustained in a recent offseason workout.
Williams, 24, signed a fully guaranteed three-year, $38 million contract in July to remain with the Suns after averaging 11.7 points and 8.0 rebounds in 60 games (55 starts) for Phoenix last season.
Williams played his first three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, who drafted him in the first round (15th overall) out of Duke in 2022. He has career averages of 12.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in 166 games (132 starts).
The Suns will open their preseason schedule at Detroit on Oct. 5 and will tip off the regular season at Portland on Oct. 21. Phoenix finished 45-37 and were swept by the Oklahoma City in the first round of the playoffs last season.
