Sep 07 (Field Level Media) – The Colorado Rockies activated third baseman Kyle Karros from his second stint on the 10-day concussion injured list on Monday, ahead of Tuesday’s road series opener at the New York Yankees.
Karros originally sustained the concussion Aug. 11 in a collision with shortstop Ezequiel Tovar against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He originally returned Aug. 21, but he played just two games before he was placed back on the concussion IL with “symptoms similar to his concussion,” manager Warren Schaeffer told reporters.
The 24-year-old cleared protocols for the second time last week and was 6-for-15 with a home run in four appearances for Double-A Hartford.
In a corresponding move, the Rockies optioned infielder/outfielder Ryan Ritter to Triple-A Albuquerque.
The concussion interrupted a promising first full season in the majors for Karros, the son of longtime major leaguer Eric Karros. He’s hitting .263 with a .360 on-base percentage, 10 homers and 44 RBIs in 114 games for Colorado.
Karros debuted last August and has a career .253 average with 11 homers and 53 RBIs in 157 games for the Rockies.
Ritter, 25, hit .158 with one RBI in 16 major league games this season. He has a career .233 average with one homer and 19 RBIs over 76 games the last two seasons for Colorado.
