Sep 01 (Field Level Media) – The New York Yankees reinstated third baseman Ryan McMahon from the 10-day injured list Tuesday after ‌a brief rehab assignment.

McMahon had been on the IL since Aug. 21 (retroactive to Aug. 20) due to a left thumb sprain.

The Yankees also added ‌newly acquired right-hander John Schreiber to the active roster. They selected the reliever off waivers from Kansas City on Monday.

There were no corresponding roster moves, as Major League Baseball rosters were allowed to expand to 28 players Tuesday.

McMahon, 31, has batted .216 with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs in 106 games this year, his first full season with the Yankees after he was traded from the ‌Colorado Rockies at the 2025 deadline.

McMahon had one previous IL stint this season due to a throat infection. He’s a career .237 hitter with 154 home runs and 502 RBIs in 1,170 games for Colorado (2017-25) and New York.

Schreiber, 32, ‌was 1-3 with one save and a 3.65 ERA in 55 ‌relief appearances this season before being placed on waivers over the weekend. He is 16-15 with 13 saves and a 3.65 ERA in 327 career games (two starts) with the Detroit Tigers (2019-20), Boston Red Sox (2021-23) and Royals.
