India’s April-July fiscal deficit at 26.8% of 2026/27 target

NEW DELHI, Aug 31 (Reuters) – India’s fiscal deficit in the months of April-July stood ​at 4.55 trillion rupees ($47.81 ‌billion), or 26.8% of the target for the financial year ending March 31, government data showed on Monday.

The ‌deficit ​in the same ⁠period last year ⁠stood at 4.7 trillion rupees.

India has set its fiscal deficit target for the financial year ​2027 at 4.3% of the GDP, or 16.96 trillion ⁠rupees.

• Net tax ⁠receipts stood at 8.5 ​trillion rupees, compared with 6.6 trillion ​rupees a year ago.

• Non-tax ‌revenue was at 4.2 trillion rupees, compared with 4 trillion rupees a year ago.

• Total ⁠government expenditure came to 17.6 trillion rupees, compared with 15.6 trillion rupees a ⁠year ‌earlier.

• Capital expenditure, or ⁠spending on building physical ​infrastructure, ‌stood at 4.5 trillion ​rupees against ⁠3.5 trillion rupees a year ago.
