Aug 27 (Field Level Media) – The Toronto Raptors will retire point guard Kyle Lowry’s No. 7 jersey following their Jan. 10 game against the visiting Philadelphia 76ers.
Lowry will join Hall of Famer Vince Carter (No. 15) as the only members of the Raptors to have their numbers retired.
Lowry, 40, officially retired on July 7 (the date is 7/7) after signing a one- day contract with Toronto to end his 20-year career.
“I’ve been looking forward to this moment for years. I always said that Toronto is home, and that I’d retire a Raptor, and to see my No. 7 go up in that building is going to mean everything to me,” Lowry said in a statement on Thursday.
“We built something special here — my teammates, the organization, the city and the fans, and all of Canada. We became champions together, and to be able to share this night with all of them, and with my family, is going to mean a lot to me.”
Lowry was selected to the All-Star Game six times in nine seasons with the Raptors, winning a championship in 2019. He also played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat and spent the majority of his final three seasons with his hometown team, the 76ers, also working as an NBA analyst for Amazon.
A Villanova product drafted 24th overall by Memphis in 2006, Lowry played in 1,187 career regular-season games and averaged 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists.
