White Sox place OF Andrew Benintendi on bereavement list

The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the bereavement/family medical emergency list on ​Tuesday prior to the club’s ‌home game against the Texas Rangers.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox recalled rookie infielder/outfielder Rikuu Nishida from Triple-A Charlotte.

Benintendi, 32, ‌is ​batting .244 with 13 ⁠home runs and 65 ⁠RBIs in 116 games this season, his fourth with the White Sox.

He is a career .265 hitter with ​131 homers and 621 RBIs in 1,263 games with the Boston ⁠Red Sox (2016-20), Kansas City ⁠Royals (2021-22), New York Yankees (2022) ​and White Sox (2023-present). He won a World ​Series title with the Red Sox ‌in 2018, won the American League Gold Glove Award as a left fielder in 2021 and was ⁠selected to the MLB All-Star Game in 2022.

Nishida, 25, made his major league debut on ⁠May ‌25. He is batting .241 (7-for-29) ⁠with two RBIs in 12 ​games ‌with Chicago. He was batting .293 ​with one ⁠homer, 27 RBIs and 22 stolen bases in 29 attempts in 86 games with Charlotte after being promoted on April 17 from Double-A Birmingham.
