The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the bereavement/family medical emergency list on Tuesday prior to the club’s home game against the Texas Rangers.
In a corresponding move, the White Sox recalled rookie infielder/outfielder Rikuu Nishida from Triple-A Charlotte.
Benintendi, 32, is batting .244 with 13 home runs and 65 RBIs in 116 games this season, his fourth with the White Sox.
He is a career .265 hitter with 131 homers and 621 RBIs in 1,263 games with the Boston Red Sox (2016-20), Kansas City Royals (2021-22), New York Yankees (2022) and White Sox (2023-present). He won a World Series title with the Red Sox in 2018, won the American League Gold Glove Award as a left fielder in 2021 and was selected to the MLB All-Star Game in 2022.
Nishida, 25, made his major league debut on May 25. He is batting .241 (7-for-29) with two RBIs in 12 games with Chicago. He was batting .293 with one homer, 27 RBIs and 22 stolen bases in 29 attempts in 86 games with Charlotte after being promoted on April 17 from Double-A Birmingham.
