The Milwaukee Brewers placed rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt on the 10-day injured list Sunday after an MRI revealed a strained right ‌hamstring.

Pratt first experienced discomfort during Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins but finished all nine innings. Manager Pat Murphy said the 21-year-old ‌believed he could be in the lineup on Sunday before additional testing revealed the strain. Milwaukee has not set a timetable for his return.

The injury interrupts a strong stretch for Pratt, who made his major league debut on June 16. After a slow start to his career, he batted .317 with two home runs, 15 RBIs, a .379 on-base percentage and .463 ‌slugging percentage since July 7.

His absence also compounds Milwaukee’s problems on the left side of the infield. Third baseman Joey Ortiz aggravated a neck issue while swinging Saturday and was unavailable Sunday, leaving Andrew Vaughn ‌to make only the second start of his career at third ‌base.

The Brewers responded by signing utilityman Jihwan Bae to a minor league deal and immediately selecting him to the major league roster. Left-hander Drew Rom was designated for assignment to create room.
