Aug 6 (Reuters) – ConocoPhillips on Thursday named finance chief Andy O’Brien as CEO, succeeding Ryan Lance, who will transition to executive chair on September 1 after more than a decade leading the U.S. oil producer.
O’Brien takes the reins of a company that has one of the strongest balance sheets among independent exploration and production companies.
Here are some details about O’Brien:
LONG-TIME CONOCO VETERAN
O’Brien joined legacy Conoco in 1997 and has spent nearly three decades with the company, holding finance, planning and strategy roles across multiple international operations before rising to the executive ranks.
CURRENT CFO AND STRATEGY CHIEF
He currently serves as CFO and executive vice president, strategy and commercial, overseeing finance, corporate planning, business development, commercial, sustainable development and low-carbon technology.
EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE
Since joining ConocoPhillips’ executive leadership team in 2022, O’Brien has led several key businesses and functions, including the company’s Alaska and international operations, commercial and LNG businesses, corporate strategy, investor relations, finance, and mergers and acquisitions.
TO LEAD CONOCOPHILLIPS FROM SEPTEMBER
O’Brien will assume the roles of president and CEO effective September 1, as ConocoPhillips hands leadership to an internal executive after Lance’s tenure.
