Blue Jays acquire RHP Jose Soriano from Angels

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-hander Jose Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels ahead of Monday’s trade deadline in ​exchange for three prospects.

Shortstop Arjun Nimmala, ‌outfielder Eddie Micheletti Jr. and right-hander Angel Rivero headed to the Angels.

Soriano, 27, is 9-6 with a 3.29 ERA through 22 starts this season, his fourth ‌with ​Los Angeles. He has struck ⁠out 127 batters ⁠and issued a league-high 57 walks in 123 innings.

Soriano has faced the Blue Jays twice this season, posting a 1-0 record with ​a 0.71 ERA, 11 strikeouts and one walk in 12 2/3 innings.

He is 26-27 ⁠with a 3.72 ERA ⁠in 113 games (73 starts) since making ​his major league debut with the Angels in ​2023.

Nimmala, 20, was Toronto’s first-round pick (20th) overall ‌in 2023 and is the team’s top-ranked prospect by Baseball America.

Nimmala has played at four levels this season, reaching Double-A New Hampshire. ⁠He hit a combined .265 with eight homers and 34 RBIs in 62 games.

Micheletti, 24, was an eighth-round ⁠selection out ‌of Virginia Tech in 2024. He ⁠batted .251 with 14 homers and ​45 ‌RBIs in 93 games at New ​Hampshire.

Rivero, 19, ⁠signed as an international free agent out of Venezuela in January 2024. This season, he went 0-1 with one save and a 2.36 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) in rookie ball.
