US Senate panel votes to advance nomination of Trump CDC pick Schwartz

WASHINGTON, July 30 (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate health ​committee voted ‌on Thursday to advance the nomination of President Donald ‌Trump’s ​pick ⁠for CDC Director ⁠Dr. Erica Schwartz, bringing her closer to confirmation ​by the whole Senate.

If ⁠confirmed, Schwartz ⁠will lead ​the Centers for ​Disease Control and Prevention, ‌an agency reeling from months of leadership ⁠turmoil.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions ⁠Committee ‌also voted ⁠to advance ​the ‌nomination of Sean ​Kaufman, ⁠Trump’s pick for Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response.
