MELBOURNE, July 28 (Reuters) – Wage negotiations between BHP and unions representing Port Hedland workers at the miner’s iron ore operations wound up on Tuesday without agreement, with more talks scheduled over the coming week, a union spokesperson said.
Port Hedland, in the country’s northwest, is a major artery for Australian iron ore, through which $80 million of BHP’s products transit each day.
BHP has been negotiating with Combined Ports Unions, with both sides saying last week that progress in negotiating a four-year agreement had been made.
A union spokesperson said more talks between Combined Ports Unions and BHP are scheduled for Tuesday of next week. BHP had no immediate comment.
Combined Ports Unions represents three unions including the Electrical Trades Union, which will meet with BHP negotiators separately on Thursday.
