France recorded 131 drowning deaths since June 19 amid heatwave, minister says

PARIS, July 10 (Reuters) – French Sports Minister ‌Marina ​Ferrari said ⁠on Friday ⁠that 131 people had died in the country ​from drowning since June ⁠19 ⁠when a ​heatwave sent temperatures ​soaring across Europe.

• Last ‌week, French Health Minister Stephanie Rist ⁠said there were 2,025 excess deaths ⁠recorded ‌in France ⁠during the ​June ‌heatwave, with a ​particular ⁠increase in deaths among people aged over 45.
