Sabres acquire Olen Zellweger from Ducks in draft-day deal

Defenseman Olen Zellweger is a member of the Buffalo Sabres following a trade with the Anaheim ​Ducks on Friday.

In exchange, the ‌Ducks receive a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and Anton Wahlberg, a forward prospect.

Zellweger, 22, is due to become ‌a ​restricted free agent on ⁠July 1. The ⁠Sabres announced the trade but no information on a contract extension.

The three-year pro played in 76 games this ​season for the Ducks and registered 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists). ⁠He appeared in three ⁠playoff games and tallied two ​points (one goal, one assist).

Zellweger has 51 points (16 ​goals, 35 assists) in 164 regular-season ‌games with the Ducks, who selected him with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Wahlberg, ⁠20, was drafted by Buffalo with the No. 39 selection in the 2023 draft. ⁠In the ‌2025-26 season, he played ⁠for Rochester of the American ​Hockey ‌League and recorded 37 points (nine ​goals, 28 ⁠assists).

The Ducks also acquired the 45th pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, which begins Friday night and continues Saturday at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
