Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes Southern Iran region, EMSC says

May 20 (Reuters) – A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck near Southern Iran on ​Wednesday, the European-Mediterranean ‌Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

The quake was at a depth of 14 km (8.7 miles), EMSC ‌said.

Iran’s ​Fars News Agency ⁠reported that a ⁠4.7 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Hormozgan province and was felt by ​residents of Qeshm and Hormoz cities, as ⁠well as ⁠in rural areas ​in Bandar Abbas. Fars said ​the epicentre was near ‌Bandar Laft at a depth of 20 km.

The director general of crisis ⁠management at the Hormozgan governorate told Iranian media that no ⁠damage ‌had been reported ⁠so far from ​the ‌earthquake, but assessments were ​ongoing.
