Mexico’s Sheinbaum taps new agriculture minister

MEXICO CITY, May 1 (Reuters) – Mexican President ​Claudia ‌Sheinbaum has tapped agronomist Columba Jasmin Lopez ‌to ​be ⁠the country’s ⁠next minister of agriculture and rural development, ​replacing current minister ⁠Julio ⁠Berdegue, her ​government said on ​Friday.

“Her appointment represents ‌the arrival of the first ⁠woman to lead Mexican agricultural policy,” ⁠the ‌agriculture ministry ⁠said ​in ‌a statement.
