Galaxy leading scorer Joao Klauss to have foot surgery

Los Angeles Galaxy striker Joao Klauss will undergo surgery to repair ​ligament damage on a ‌foot on Friday and will be sidelined until after the break for the World ‌Cup, ​head coach Greg ⁠Vanney announced.

The ⁠Galaxy will return from the break on July 17 against Los Angeles FC.

Klauss ​has recorded a team-best five goals in eight ⁠appearances (seven starts) ⁠this season. He sustained ​his injury during the Galaxy’s ​2-2 draw against FC ‌Dallas last Saturday.

The 29-year-old Brazilian was acquired from St. Louis City on ⁠Jan. 27 for $2.375 million in cash.

Klauss has totaled 30 goals and ⁠10 ‌assists in 87 ⁠career appearances (73 starts) with ​the ‌two MLS teams.

He joined ​St. ⁠Louis City for its expansion season in 2023 after professional stints in Germany, Belgium, Finland and Austria.
