Syracuse star forward Donnie Freeman announced Tuesday he is entering the transfer portal after two seasons in the program.

“Syracuse ‌gave me a place to grow, compete and be challenged,” Freeman wrote as part of an Instagram post. “They welcomed me with open ‌arms from day one and never stopped supporting and believing me through both the highs and the tough moments. I’m thankful for everyone I’ve met during my time at Syracuse, the coaches, my teammates and the staff, for helping shape me into who I am today.”

Freeman averaged 16.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in 2025-26, both team highs for the ‌Orange, but he was limited to 23 games (21 starts), missing nine with a lower-body injury.

Across 37 games in two years at Syracuse, he has put up 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, ‌shooting an efficient 55.9% from inside the arc.

As Syracuse moves forward ‌with Gerry McNamara as its head coach following the dismissal of Adrian Autry, the Orange have had six players enter the transfer portal, including fellow starter Naithan George and key reserve Tyler Betsey.
