The Philadelphia Flyers placed forward Rodrigo Abols on injured reserve Sunday after he was hurt in the 6-3 home loss to the New York Rangers ‍on Saturday.

In a corresponding move, the Flyers recalled forward Lane Pederson from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League.

Abols was battling for a puck along the boards when he fell and twisted his right leg at 6:10 of the first period. He was ‌helped off the ice and didn’t put ‌weight on his leg as he went to the locker room.

“It’s not good. I’m not going to get into it, but it’s not good,” Flyers coach Rick Tocchet said.

The forward has 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 42 games this season with a minus-1 rating, 22 penalty minutes, 24 blocks and ‍49 hits with an average of 10:30 ice time.

Abols, who turned 30 on Jan. 5, is on his native Latvia’s hockey team roster for ‍the Winter Olympics next month.

He is in his second season with Philadelphia, where he made his NHL debut last season and has totaled 15 points (five goals, 10 assists), a minus-11 rating, 26 penalty minutes, 36 blocks, 74 hits and ‍10:03 average ice time in 64 games.

The Vancouver Canucks selected Abols in the seventh round of the 2016 NHL Draft. He ‍signed as a ‍free agent with the Flyers in June 2024.

Pederson, 28, has not played in the NHL since the 2022-24 season with the Columbus Blue ‌Jackets.

Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, who last played on Monday in a 5-1 home loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, was placed on IR on Saturday with an upper-body injury. Ristolainen, 31, has sat out three games and could miss another week, Tocchet said on Sunday.
