Quebec premier Francois Legault is resigning, says La Presse newspaper

OTTAWA, Jan 14 (Reuters) – Quebec premier Francois ‍Legault will announce on Wednesday that he is resigning ‌after more ‌than seven years in office, La Presse newspaper reported.

Legault is ​due to give a ‍press ​conference at ​11 am (1600 GMT). ‍The next election in Quebec, Canada’s second most populous ‍province, must be held by October ‍5 ‍and polls ​indicate Legault’s ​center-right ⁠Coalition Avenir Quebec ‌party will lose to the separatist Parti Quebecois.
