Rockies acquire OF Jake McCarthy from Diamondbacks

The Colorado Rockies acquired outfielder Jake McCarthy from the Arizona Diamondbacks on ‍Saturday in exchange for minor-league right-hander Josh Grosz.

McCarthy, 28, batted .204 with four homers and 20 RBIs in 67 games ‌last season with Arizona. ‌The speedy, defensive-minded outfielder is a career .260 hitter with 24 homers and 139 RBIs in 431 games ​over parts of five seasons with the Diamondbacks.

Grosz, ‍23, was ​acquired by Colorado from ​the New York Yankees as ‍part of the Ryan McMahon deal on July 25, 2025.

The No. 20 overall Rockies prospect, as ranked by MLB.com, ‍posted a 1-6 record with a 5.87 ERA in seven starts ‍for ‍High-A Spokane last season. ​Over 23 appearances (22 ​starts) ⁠in the Yankees’ and ‌Rockies’ systems last season, he was a combined 5-14 with a 4.67 ERA and 135 strikeouts over 125 1/3 innings.
