Florida Panthers leading scorer Brad Marchand did not return for the third period of Tuesday’s ‍4-1 road loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs due to an undisclosed injury.

In his first full season with Florida, Marchand, 37, is tied ‌for the team lead in ‌goals (23) with Sam Reinhart and has a team-high 46 points.

“He’s been dealing with something,” Panthers coach Paul Maurice told reporters. “It just got the point we didn’t want to make it ‍worse. We’re a little sensitive about injuries here now, and do our best ‍to keep guys healthy. So that was a coach’s decision.”

Last Wednesday, Marchand was named to Hockey Canada’s 25-man roster for next month’s Winter ‍Olympics in Milan, Italy. It will mark his first Olympic experience, but he ‍has ‍won gold medals with Canada at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, the 2016 World ‌Cup of Hockey and the 2016 IIHF World Championship.

The two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers return to the ice on Thursday at the Montreal Canadiens.
