The Chicago Cubs are finalizing a deal to acquire right-hander Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins, according to multiple reports ‍Wednesday.

The Cubs’ No. 1 prospect, outfielder Owen Caissie, has long been coveted by Miami and is reportedly set to be part of the trade.

Cabrera, 27, has pitched for the Marlins since making his ‌debut in 2021. He is under ‌team control through 2028 and is projected to earn $3.7 million in arbitration in 2026, per MLB Trade Rumors.

He is 25-29 with a 4.07 ERA in 89 career games (87 starts) and 431 2/3 innings. He has recorded 478 strikeouts, 216 walks ‍and a 1.309 WHIP.

Cabrera missed time due to injuries in 2025 with a right middle finger blister and a ‍sprained right elbow. He was on the injured list twice in 2024 with a right shoulder impingement.

Caissie, 23, made his major league debut in 2025 and hit .192 (5 for 26) with ‍a homer and four RBIs in 13 games. The Canadian native batted .281 with 41 homers and 130 ‍RBIs in 226 ‍games over the past two seasons at Triple-A Iowa.

Cabrera’s name previously popped up as a possibility to help ‌fill holes in the New York Yankees’ starting rotation created by the elbow surgeries of Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt which will keep them all out for the start of the season.
