NHL roundup: Penguins open campaign with 7-0 beatdown of Flyers

Oct 01 (Field Level Media) – Nick Robertson scored twice in his Pittsburgh debut and Arturs Silovs made 19 saves as the visiting Penguins demolished the Philadelphia ​Flyers 7-0 on Wednesday in the season opener for both ‌teams.

Filip Hallander added a goal and two assists for Pittsburgh, which lost to Philadelphia in a six-game first-round playoff series last season.

The Penguins had no problem in this one, as 14 players recorded at least one point, including Hendrix ‌Lapierre (one ​goal, one assist), Kaedan Korczak (two assists) and ⁠Samuel Girard (two assists). Ville Koivunen, ⁠Evgeni Malkin and Egor Chinakhov added a goal apiece.

Dan Vladar, a standout last season in his first campaign with the Flyers, allowed all seven goals on 38 shots. Noel Acciari, who spent ​the past three seasons with Pittsburgh, posted a minus-3 rating in his Philadelphia debut.

Maple Leafs 2, Islanders 1

Easton Cowan had a ⁠goal and an assist in the first ⁠period, and Toronto defeated visiting New York for ​new coach Jim Hiller’s first win.

Colton Sissons also scored for the Maple ​Leafs, who have split their first two games. They lost ‌their home opener 3-2 to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. Anthony Stolarz made 26 saves.

Emil Heineman scored for the Islanders in their season opener. Ilya Sorokin stopped 24 shots.

Avalanche 8, Kings 4

Nathan MacKinnon and ⁠Artturi Lehkonen had two goals each, Mackenzie Blackwood made 27 saves and Colorado rode a four-goal second period to a victory over Los Angeles ⁠in Denver in ‌the season opener for both teams.

Brock Nelson collected ⁠a goal and two assists, Parker Kelly added a ​goal ‌and assist and Nicolas Roy and Gabriel Landeskog ​also scored ⁠to help Colorado coach Jared Bednar celebrate his new four-year contract extension. Cale Makar, Nazem Kadri, Jaden Schwartz and Devon Toews had two assists each.

Artemi Panarin, Trevor Moore, Joel Armia and Brian Dumoulin scored while Darcy Kuemper stopped 21 shots for the Kings. Alex Laferriere added two ​assists.
