Sep 30 (Field Level Media) – Philadelphia Union midfielder Cavan Sullivan became the youngest MLS Player of the Month on Wednesday at 17 years and two days old.
Sullivan is the youngest to earn the honor since Orlando City striker Daryl Dike (20 years, 98 days) was selected in August 2020.
The Union went 5-0-0 in September with Sullivan posting an MLS-best nine goal contributions in the month. He tied for the league lead with five assists and tied for third with four goals.
His streak of eight matches with a goal or assist is the longest by a teenager in MLS history.
For the season, Sullivan has seven goals and 12 assists in 1,450 regular- season minutes over 24 games (17 starts). The 19 goal contributions are tied for second most by a teenager in a single MLS season, with Alphonso Davies (2018).
Sullivan became the youngest player to debut in North American team sports history when he made his league debut against the New England Revolution on July 17, 2024. The Philadelphia native was 14 years and 293 days old at the time.
The homegrown talent is the first in league history to progress through the MLS Player Pathway from the MLS NEXT league to MLS NEXT Pro to the first team and then earn MLS Player of the Month honors.
