Sep 24 (Field Level Media) – The New York Yankees placed right-hander Clarke Schmidt on the 15-day injured list with right biceps neuritis Thursday.
The move is retroactive to Monday. The club recalled right-hander Bradley Hanner from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.
Schmidt had his second Tommy John surgery in the summer of 2025 and was not activated until earlier this month. In his one and only appearance, he gave up two hits and struck out two in two-thirds of an inning Sept. 16 during a 5-4, 13-inning loss to the Minnesota Twins.
Now, he will be shelved until at least Oct. 6, ruling him out for the American League wild-card round.
Schmidt, 30, was a starter for the Yankees from 2023-25 but worked in relief before that. In 98 career games (67 starts), he is 23-24 with two saves, a 3.81 ERA, 139 walks and 386 strikeouts across 394 innings.
Hanner, 27, made his major league debut on Aug. 14 and played four games, pitching to an 11.81 ERA (seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings) without a decision.
