Sep 22 (Field Level Media) – The Charlotte Hornets are acquiring shooting guard Buddy Hield from the Atlanta Hawks in a deal for forward Dorian Finney-Smith, ESPN reported Tuesday.
The Hornets will also net point guard Ryan Nembhard and cash considerations as part of the trade. Charlotte will reportedly waive Nembhard.
According to ESPN, Atlanta will create a $2.1 million trade exception and Charlotte will create a $4.5 million trade exception.
The Hornets will be the seventh team for the 33-year-old Hield, who has made 2,201 3-pointers, 15th-most in NBA history, while shooting 39.5% from beyond the arc.
Hield, 33, has career averages of 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He split last season between the Golden State Warriors (44 games) and Hawks (seven) and averaged a career-low 7.6 points per game.
Hield’s highest scoring average came when he put up 20.7 per game for the Sacramento Kings in 2018-19.
Finney-Smith, 33, averaged just 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 37 games (one start) for the Houston Rockets last season and was traded to Charlotte in July.
He spent his first 6 1/2 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks before spending time with the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Rockets. He is entering his 11th NBA season.
Finney-Smith has career averages of 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds over 628 games (445 starts).
Nembhard, 23, was an undrafted rookie who averaged 6.6 points and 5.3 assists in 60 games (27 starts) for Dallas last season. He was traded to Atlanta in July in a three-team deal that also included the Oklahoma City Thunder.
