Sep 17 (Field Level Media) – The Philadelphia Phillies claimed right-hander Jose Urquidy off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday.

Right-hander Caleb ‌Kilian was transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room for Urquidy on the 40-man roster.

Urquidy, best known for his tenure with the ‌Houston Astros, has appeared for both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the White Sox this season. Pittsburgh dealt him to Chicago in late July.

In 11 games (one start) between the two clubs, Urquidy has gone 2-2 with a 5.28 ERA and one save. In 92 career games (71 starts) for the Astros (2019-23), Detroit Tigers (2025), Pirates and White Sox, he is 29-18 with a 4.08 ERA and two saves.

He was a ‌part of the Astros team that won the 2022 World Series and pitched in the playoffs in five straight seasons for Houston. He is 4-2 with a 4.08 ERA in 15 playoff games (eight starts).

The Phillies’ bullpen ranks 20th in ‌baseball with a 4.31 ERA this year, and it has blown ‌23 of 63 save opportunities. The club is also without All-Star starter Jesus Luzardo as it heads toward a likely playoff bid. Luzardo was placed on the injured list this week with inflammation in his left (throwing) shoulder.
