Sep 17 (Field Level Media) – Top-seeded Marta Kostyuk is through to the quarterfinals of the Guadalajara Open even though she has yet to play a point in the Mexican ‌tournament.

The Ukrainian received a first-round bye, and she got a walkover in her scheduled second-round match on Wednesday when Taylor Townsend withdrew due to an illness.

Kostyuk is now scheduled to get her tournament underway against eighth-seeded Liudmila Samsonova of Russia, who edged Kayla Day 7-6 (4), 2-6, 7-6 (5) in the last match Wednesday night.

In the day’s other second-round action, second-seeded Iva Jovic, the defending champion, topped Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez 7-6 (5), 6-4, and ‌seventh-seeded Magdalena Frech eliminated Caroline Dolehide 6-4, 6-3.
