Sep 15 (Field Level Media) – The Philadelphia Phillies placed All-Star left-handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with left shoulder inflammation.
The move is retroactive to Saturday, meaning he will be eligible to return on Sept. 27, the final day of the regular season. Philadelphia recalled right- hander Grant Holman from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move.
Luzardo, 27, was scratched from his most recent scheduled start on Saturday as he battled stiffness in his pitching shoulder. An MRI exam did not reveal any serious concerns.
In his most recent appearance, Luzardo tossed his first career complete game, a 109-pitch shutout on Sept. 7 against the Atlanta Braves with 12 strikeouts, two hits and one walk.
After a breakout 2025, Luzardo is having his best season to date in 2026. The first-time All-Star is 14-5 with a 2.87 ERA across 29 starts. He has already set a career high with 221 strikeouts against 52 walks.
In eight MLB seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2019-21), Miami Marlins (2021-24) and Phillies (2025-26), Luzardo is 55-46 with a 3.92 ERA and two saves in 166 appearances (150 starts). He has thrown 996 strikeouts in all, eclipsing 200 in three of the past four seasons.
Holman, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Detroit Tigers by Philadelphia on May 7. He made his Phillies debut Saturday against the Braves and yielded five unearned runs on four hits and a walk in one-third of an inning.
In 41 major league games (two starts) for the Athletics (2024-25) and Phillies, Holman has gone 5-3 with a 4.62 ERA.
