PARIS, Sept 11 (Reuters) – Emmanuel Moulin, France’s central bank chief, said on Friday that France was not in catastrophic economic danger but the government must act to reduce the country’s public deficit.
Moulin, speaking to RTL radio, was speaking after INSEE revised downward on Thursday its economic forecast for the euro zone’s second-largest economy, saying it was now expected to grow just 0.4% this year. Moulin cited several factors such as a deadly heatwave and issues at Airbus.
The national statistics institute had previously forecasted growth of 0.7%, already short of last year’s expansion recorded at 0.9%.
The government is expected on Friday to downwardly revise its own forecast, currently set at 0.7% growth, as it prepares to send its 2027 budget bill to parliament at the end of the month.
