Sep 09 (Field Level Media) – The Yankees will place infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right thumb, New York manager Aaron Boone said prior to Wednesday’s home game against the Colorado Rockies.
Chisholm was injured while sliding into second base in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies.
Boone said Chisholm will avoid baseball activities for seven to 10 days while the thumb is healing.
The manager said the team hasn’t yet decided who will be recalled in a corresponding move.
Jose Caballero started at second base Wednesday in place of Chisholm.
Chisholm, 28, is batting .232 with 19 home runs and 55 RBIs in 134 games this season and is tied for the American League lead of 40 steals with Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson. Chisholm is slated to become a free agent following the season.
He has been hot lately with a .381 average (16-for-42) over his past 14 games.
“I feel like he has been putting together some of his best at-bats of the season for an extended stretch,” Boone said. “So, definitely a blow.”
Last season, Chisholm was an All-Star when he established career highs of 31 homers and 80 RBIs. He batted .242 with 31 steals in 130 games.
Overall, Chisholm has 127 homers, 363 RBIs and 170 steals in 713 big league games with the Miami Marlins (2020-24) and Yankees (2024-present). Also an All-Star in 2022, he has a .245 career batting average.
