The Texas Rangers on Tuesday activated catcher Danny Jansen, who had missed the last 64 games with a right forearm strain.

In a corresponding move, ‌the Rangers designated veteran catcher Austin Wynns for assignment. In doing so, Texas has seven days to trade, release or outright Wynns, 35, to the ‌minor leagues.

Jansen, 31, last played on June 2 before going on the 10-day injured list on June 3. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 29. In five rehab starts for Triple-A Round Rock, Jansen batted .333 (5-for-15) with one RBI and threw out each of two attempted base stealers.

Texas signed the free agent to a two-year, $14.5 million contract in December. He batted .171 (21-for-123) with three home runs ‌and 12 RBIs in 41 games this season before the injury.

Jansen is a career .216 hitter with 91 homers and 268 RBIs in 639 regular-season games for the Toronto Blue Jays (2018-24), Boston Red Sox (2024), Tampa Bay Rays (2025), Milwaukee Brewers (2025) and ‌Rangers.

Wynns was 8-for-29 (.276) with one homer and one RBI in 14 games ‌for Texas. He has also played for the Athletics (14 games) and Atlanta Braves (six) this season and has a combined .146 (12-for-82) batting average.

He is a career .230 hitter with 20 homers and 85 RBIs in 313 games for eight teams.
