The New York Red Bulls exercised their option to purchase forward Mijahir Jimenez from Panama’s CD Plaza Amador for an undisclosed fee on Friday.

The 19-year-old ‌Panamanian signed a two-year MLS contract through 2027-28 with team options through 2030-31. He will occupy an international roster slot.

“Mijahir has earned this opportunity through his ‌hard work, professionalism and development since joining our club,” NYRB head of sport Julian de Guzman said. “He has embraced our playing style, continues to improve every day, and shown he is ready for the next step.”

Jimenez has spent most of the past two seasons with MLS NEXT Pro side Red Bulls II, tallying 11 goals and six assists in 33 appearances.

Playing on a short-term agreement, Jimenez made his first ‌MLS start on Aug. 1 and scored two goals in a 3-2 victory against Orlando City on Aug. 1. He was only the second player in franchise history with a brace in his first career start, and the first since 2004.

“Mijahir ‌has continued to improve, and we are excited to have him with us ‌as he takes the next step in his development,” Red Bulls coach Michael Bradley said. “Through his work ethic and his commitment in training every day, he deserves this opportunity and we can’t wait to continue working with him.”
