WASHINGTON, Aug 7 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump posted on Friday that U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro should revist her decision to drop a Justice Department case alleging vandalism at the newly renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Here are some details:
• “U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro should re-visit her hastily made decision,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
• The Justice Department and Pirro’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
• Trump, who has repeatedly alleged that vandals damaged the pool, has sharply criticized Pirro for dropping the case, saying this week that she had “choked” under pressure from a judge and “folded like an umbrella.”
• Pirro’s office said in a court filing last week that flawed installation, not vandalism, caused the liner of the pool to peel.
• Her office moved to drop charges against former Olympian David Hearn, whom the Justice Department had accused of deliberately damaging the pool ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration last month.
• A judge granted a request from federal attorneys to dismiss the vandalism charge against Hearn, court records showed on Thursday.
• Hearn denied any wrongdoing.
