Penguins sign F Ville Koivunen to eight-year, $32M deal

The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed restricted free agent forward Ville Koivunen ​to an eight-year, $32 ‌million contract on Thursday.

The deal runs through the 2023-24 season and carries an ‌average ​annual value ⁠of $4 million.

Koivunen, 23, ⁠recorded two goals and five assists in 39 games with the ​Penguins in 2025-26. He added 41 points (13 ⁠goals, 28 ⁠assists) in 34 ​games with AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The ​Finland native made his ‌NHL debut with Pittsburgh in March 2025 and has contributed 14 ⁠points (two goals, 12 assists) in 47 NHL contests.

Carolina drafted ⁠Koivunen ‌in the second ⁠round in 2021 ​and ‌traded him to the ​Penguins ⁠on March 7, 2024 in a deal that sent forward Jake Gunetzel to the Hurricanes.
